BD exports to SA up by 9.5pc last fiscal

Bangladesh's export to South Asian nations increased by 9.5 per cent to $420.55 million in the last fiscal year compared to the year before.
Data released by state-run Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) showed that merchandise exports to the region rose by nearly $40 million in 2010 financial year. The figures were $ 383.96 million in FY 2008-2009.
The country's exports to the regional markets accounted for only 2.59 per cent of its total exports.
The data showed export to India was $ 304.63 million, which was 276.58 million in last fiscal year.
Bangladesh exported goods worth $ 77.67 million to Pakistan, and $ 23.74 million to Sri-Lanka during the period.
In Nepal, the country's exports amounted to $ 8.79 million while $ 2.74 million found its way into Maldives.
Shipment was $ 2.74 million to Afghanistan and $ 2.24 million to Bhutan in the FY 2009-2010.
