Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Wednesday the path for Bangladesh is not too long to get rid of poverty and vowed to achieve the target with the united efforts of all, including the public servants, reports UNB.
"We'll have to build hunger- and poverty-free Bangladesh. The current poverty rate in the country has come down to 22.7 per cent while the extreme poverty at 7.9 per cent. That path of freeing Bangladesh from poverty is not too long…if we work hard and discharge duties properly, it's my conviction, we'll be able to attain that target soon," she said.
Sheikh Hasina was speaking at a function at her office after witnessing the signing of Annual Performance Agreement (APA) between the PMO and its six subordinate bodies and project. The Governance Innovation Unit, first set up under the PMO in 2012, played an important role in formulating the Annual Performance Management.
Reminding the public servants that people are the source of all power, Hasina said they should not forget that they are the servants of the republic and they must discharge their duties keeping in mind the interests of the country and its people.
