Bengal Commercial Bank Limited (BGCB) on Wednesday unveiled its official logo with the motto to stand by the small and medium businesses.

BGCB, the 60th scheduled bank in the country, is expected to launch its services soon, the bank authorities said.

Commerce minister Tipu Munshi graced the ceremony as the chief guest at a ceremony at a city hotel in the evening.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI) president Sheikh Fazle Fahim and, parliament member and founder chairman Bengal Group of Industries Morshed Alam attended the function as special guests.

Chairman of BGCB Md Jashim Uddin, vice chairman Mahbubul Alam, vice chairman Ghulam Mohammed Alomgir, managing director and CEO of the bank Tarik Morshed, and other board members were present at the programme.

In his speech, Mr. Munshi said the success of a bank depends on the efficiency and honesty of the board.

"The people who are behind the bank's formation are all established and successful business personalities and I hope they will make the 60th commercial Bank of the country a big success," he said.

The BGCB chairman said that it is quite hard for small businesses and youth entrepreneurs to get loans from banking channel due to many reasons.

After the government directives, the banks are now offering loans at single digit interest rates which will benefit small businesses, he said, adding: "As BGCB is a new and a small bank, it will initially stand beside the small entrepreneurs to grow together."

BGCB CEO Mr. Morshed said the bank will emphasis more on providing digital banking services to its clients so that they can do banking from home.

Mentioning that the country's 84 per cent economy is informal, he said the bank will try to bring more people within the formal banking channel, especially in rural areas.

The Bangladesh Bank issued licence to BGCB on February 23 this year.
