BGMEA, BKMEA urge one-day election holiday

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) urged the government to declare a one-day general holiday in the industrial areas on the occasion of the upcoming parliamentary elections and referendum, instead of three days, citing concerns over negative impact on production.

In separate letters to the labour ministry, the two apparel apex bodies made the request.

In the letter, BGMEA acting President Salim Rahman said owners of different garment factories have expressed their dissatisfaction fearing that multiple holidays would have an adverse impact on the export of readymade garments.
