The apparel apex body urged the political parties Thursday to keep the RMG sector outside the purview of the blockade for the sake of uninterrupted shipment of the country's largest exporting sector.

In a statement, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) also appealed to all political parties to shun the path of confrontational politics and find alternative to hartal/blockade and resolve the ongoing political impasse through dialogue.

It also requested to maintain smooth vehicular movement on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Benapole highways for the supply of RMG products.

Due to such political activities, the supply chain of the export-import face obstacles leading a 30 to 35 per cent daily production fall, it added.

"The garment sector is passing through a very crucial time with the improvement works to ensure workplace safety in factories," it said adding as a result of different corrective measures, buyers are getting back their confidence and have increased the volume of orders in recent times.

"Uncertainty will be created among the global apparel buyers again and they will be discouraged to place orders in Bangladesh if such political situation continues," the statement added.
