BGMEA calls for keeping some bank branches open during Eid holiday

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) sought continuation of operation of some bank branches during the upcoming weekend and Eid-ul-Fitr holiday dated March 28 to March 30.

Sources said such a move would be important to facilitate payment of employees' salaries and allowances, and operation expenditure, processing which includes submission of export bills.

The association recently made the request to Bangladesh Bank (BB) seeking necessary steps.

Sources said that the request is applicable for the branches located at the areas of RMG factories including in Dhaka metropolitan, Chittagong, Savar, Tongi, Gazipur, Narayanganj, and Bhaluka.

BGMEA also requested to keep the Bangladesh Automated Clearing House and Real Time Gross Settlement facility running among the branches during the period while making efforts to waive any fees required.

A BB source said their department in charge of looking after such issues is currently working on it.
