The election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was held peacefully Sunday with the Forum Panel boycotting the polls.
"Out of total 3,028 voters some 1,743 cast their votes to elect 27 directors of the country's apex body of the apparel sector both in its Dhaka and Chittagong zones for the 2011-12 period," election commissioner Shafiullah Chowdhury told the FE.
Out of total 2,443 voters in Dhaka zone, 1,420 exercised their voting rights to elect 20 directors of the association while of the total 585 voters 323 cast
their votes under the Chittagong zone, he said.
Earlier, the Forum Panel, led by Anwarul-ul-Alam Parvez, had decided to boycott the polls due to what he said "possibility of a pre-fixed result and a flawed and incomplete voters' list."
