BGMEA President Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez Sunday requested World Bank Country Director Xian Zhu to discuss with the government the issues affecting the growth of the country's RMG sector, reports UNB.
"It's not possible for the BGMEA alone to develop the sector at the maximum level," he told a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank's Dhaka office at the BGMEA (Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association) Complex.
Xian Zhu, who led the delegation, termed the RMG sector a success story of the country, and assured the BGMEA of their continued support for its development.
The BGMEA president stressed the need for setting up of a deep sea-port, establishing a garment village, reducing interest rate on bank loans for the apparel industry, arranging loans at 7.0 per cent interest for setting up of effluent treatment plants (ETPs) and establishing a central ETP at government initiative.
