The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Wednesday protested the decision of the FBCCI Arbitration Council which dropped its five members from the voters list.
BGMEA said that it will file cases in the courts challenging the decision of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Arbitration Council.
The FBCCI arbitration gave the order Tuesday after hearing.
The FBCCI Arbitration Council dropped five voters of the BGMEA from final voter list which might bar Annisul Huq to participate in the election.
Former BGMEA president Annisul Huq is likely to vie for the FBCCI president post which is scheduled to be held November 20 this year.
Sources said five voters including Annisul Huq were in the preliminary list and final list as well. But following a complaint from Mahbub Minhaz, a garment businessman, the Arbitration Council dropped them from final list.
The apparel businessman filed a complaint with the FBCCI Arbitration Council to disqualify the BGMEA voters as the present executive body of apparel exporters is not 'legal'.
The FBCCI arbitration council heard the issue Tuesday and decided to drop BGMEA voters from the list.
Other dropped voters are MA Salam, Faisal Samad, ABM Shamsuddin and Ferdous Pervez Bivan.
bdnews24.com adds: BGMEA called a press conference Wednesday to protest the decision of FBCCI.
"It cannot be accepted. The election arbitration committee made an illegal decision without leaving scope for self-defence," Huq told bdnews24.com by phone.
FBCCI president Mir Nasir Hossain told the news agency that it was a BGMEA member who had filed a complaint with court, challenging its recent election.
