The unease in bilateral ties between the USA and Bangladesh has eased following a letter from US President Joe Biden to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said on Monday.

"I don't see any reason for concern," the foreign minister told reporters when asked if the letter had resolved the discomfort with the US.

The US was critical of the last general election, which was boycotted by the opposition BNP.

However, the foreign minister described the letter as "very positive", indicating a new partnership between Dhaka and Washington.

In the letter, Biden expressed his willingness to collaborate on achieving Bangladesh's economic goals, as well as partnering on their shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific.

"The United States is committed to supporting Bangladesh's ambitious economic goals and partnering with Bangladesh on our shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific," Biden had said.

The foreign minister said, "We warmly congratulate this letter. We think our relationship with the United States is very good. With this letter from the President of the United States, our relationship will improve and reach a different level,"

"The US President has expressed interest in working together on international peace and security, the Rohingya crisis and climate change issues," he said.
