FE REPORT | June 26, 2024 00:00:00

A flight of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital early Tuesday as its windshield developed a crack.

The Biman flight BG-127, which was bound for Abu Dhabi from Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport at Chattogram, developed a crack on the front glass (windshield), sources at the airport said.

The flight was forced to hover on Narsingdi sky for around three hours before making the emergency landing, causing panic among passengers.

Later at around 1:20am, the flight safely landed at HSIA in Dhaka.

An official of HSIA said the aircraft decided to make an emergency landing due to a crack in the windshield.

Therefore, according to rules, the flight continues to burn fuel by hovering the sky. The Air Traffic Control tower at the Dhaka Airport directed the flight to hover in the sky.

Some locals called the police station through 999 when the flight was hovering on the Narsingdi sky.

According to flight radar website flightradar, the flight took off from Chattogram to Abu Dhabi at 10:04 pm.

Before landing at the Dhaka airport, the aircraft hovered on the Narsingdi  sky for 26/27 times for burning fuel. Group Captain Kamrul Islam, executive director of HSIA, said, "The flight had technical glitch. It later landed safely."

Biman General Manager (Public Relations) Boshra Islam said that the matter was nothing serious.

The aircraft had to circle several times to burn fuel. The altitude at which the plane flew was safe.
