Bird exposes security lapse at Sylhet airport

SYLHET, Aug 1: A bird exposed the security lapse at the Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Saturday morning.
The bird entered the right-side engine of an aircraft of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines minutes after it had landed at the airport leaving its engine inoperative.
The incident took place due to the absence of on-duty bird shooter Selim Uddin, sources said. It exposed the security lapse at the airport.
The flight BG025 of the Biman arrived at the airport from Dubai at about 7:15 am. When the passengers came out of it, the bird entered the right-side engine leaving four blades cracked and the aircraft inoperative, officials said.
There were 39 Dhaka-bound passengers aboard the flight from Dubai and 19 others from Sylhet. They were set fly to Dhaka half an hour later. about to board on the craft for Dhaka-bound flight after half an hour. It was cancelled immediately. The passengers were sent to Dhaka by a separate flight in the afternoon.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Manager for Sylhet Md Hafiz Ahmed said a technical team from Dhaka reached Sylhet and started repairing the aircraft's engine.
The passengers were, however, sent to Dhaka by a separate flight. After an enquiry, the errant staff would be punished, he added.
