The authorities concerned could not restore the system of birth and death registration and issuance of certificates across the country even after 20 days of collapse of the central server.
The project director earlier from the on Thursday said that it would be fixed by Friday.
A nationwide catastrophe occurred on February 03 last as the central server for the Birth and Death Registration Project under the Local Government Division collapsed causing immense sufferings to the citizens.
Service seekers like parents of children seeking admission to different schools, applicants for passport, migrant workers, overseas job seekers and students willing to get admission to overseas educational institutions are among the worst sufferers due to the disaster.
The authority concerned has been running this big national vital project, which according to the project key stakeholders, without adequate and skilled manpower to maintain the system and back-up support.
Chief Health Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Brig Gen AKM Masood Ahsan told the FE that the system had started working on Saturday but again went out of order on Sunday after doing some work.
While contacted, Rafiqul Islam, Zonal Executive Officer, Zone 4 of DNCC, said the system was working since Saturday but the net speed was slow. But he was not aware of the number of registration or certificates issued as it is the job of the assistant health officer.
Talking to the FE Health Officer of Zone 3 of DNCC Dr Emdadul Haque said he was informed by his office staffs that the system started working about 9:00 pm on Saturday. But the zonal office could work only until 10:00 am of Sunday.
About the number of certificates or registration by this time, Dr Emdadul said they could register some pending jobs.
While asked about the specific time of the system to be restored, Dr Emdadul said they were keeping in touch with the Birth and Death Registration Project and the PD is repeatedly giving them assurance of repairing the system within the shortest possible time.
Chief Health Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Brig Gen Mahbubur Rahman said the system had started working since Saturday but they could not yet do their work properly as there were problems with the fonts.
He expressed the hope that it may take another two or three days to restore the full system.
Chairman of Tukerbazar Union Parishad of Sylhet Shahid Ahammed said the system was working but it was too slow to deliver any service.
Despite frequent efforts to communicate over mobile phone with the project director of Birth and Death Registration Project Mr Saiful Islam, this correspondent failed to get any comment in this connection.
