BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Saturday blamed the government for spreading rumour of hartal, reports UNB.
He said gossips of non-stop hartal across the country emanated from the ruling Awami League only to mislead the nation.
"We have not yet decided upon calling hartal," said the BNP leader. "The decision for hartal will be taken by the standing committee on behaviour and activities of the government", he added.
Mr Alamgir was speaking at a function on voluntary blood donation and free medical camp at the party's Nayapaltan central office.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) organised the two-day programme marking the 46th birth anniversary of Tarique Rahman, Senior Vice-chairman of BNP.
BNP and its front and associate organisations have also taken different programmes including Milad Mahfil and Quran Khawni to celebrate the birth day of Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of late President Ziaur Rahman, who is now in London for treatment.
DAB Secretary General Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, also an adviser to BNP chairperson presided over the function.
