Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its associate bodies brought out on Friday a stick procession demanding resignation of the government and calling upon the voters to boycott Sunday's polls.
Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi led the procession in the capital's Karwan Bazar area.
"We don't accept this illegal and dummy election. We don't accept this unilateral election," the party stalwarts chanted slogans while marching in the procession.
They also accused the government of stealing public votes. In a brief speech after the procession, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that there are now two directions for surviving in the country- one is of truth, justice and freedom of expression and rights to vote while the other is of money laundering, looting and snatching people's rights.
"We follow the direction of truth and justice and that is why our victory is inevitable," he said.
"People of the country would not accept this illegal and looters election," he vowed.
He called upon the party leaders and activists to boycott the parliament election scheduled for January 7, 2024.
Health affairs secretary of BNP Rafiqul Islam, assistant youth affairs secretary Mir Newaz Ali Newaz, central executive committee member Selim Reza Habib and member of Dhaka south unit of the party Nadia Pathan Papon were present, among others.
