BNP candidate challenges HC stay order

BNP mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarkar filed a petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday challenging the High Court order staying the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election for three months, reports UNB.

However, no hearing on the petition was held with the chamber judge of the Appellate Division as no representative from the Election Commission was present at the court, said Sagir Hossain Leon, counsel of the BNP mayoral candidate.

Meanwhile, Awami League candidate Zahangir Alam is also going to file an appeal against the HC order.

While talking to reporters at the Supreme Court on Monday, he said he wants the election to be held for the sake of Gazipur's development.

Zahangir's lawyer SM Shafiqul Islam Babu said they will file the appeal today (Tuesday).
