Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday strongly criticised the Prime Minister's latest statement regarding 'the party's hope to go to power with the help of Bangladesh Army', saying that she has insulted the state institution by making such an apprehension.
A latest statement, issued by its joint secretary general Salah Uddin Ahmed, said BNP is a systematic and the largest political party that re-established multi-party democratic system in the country.
"BNP has firm belief in democracy, and it has never given recognition to any undemocratic ways. Rather, undemocratic forces have emerged in the past only because of autocratic activities of Awami League (AL)."
It said the country's pride Bangladesh Army has been performing its duties with reputation, and BNP does not want to involve the force in any kind of controversy.
The statement mentioned that the illegal government of AL has closed all the doors of systematic political activities by denying people's freedom of speech, human rights and imposing restriction on mass media.
"By doing so using the firearms of the law-enforcement agencies, the government has encouraged undemocratic forces and extremism. The government will have to take all the responsibilities, if the journey of democracy is hampered here."
The statement also warned the Prime Minister of facing trial for 'her instruction to the law-enforcement agencies for extra-judicial killings'.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a programme said on Sunday BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is awaiting unconstitutional forces to help her grab the state power.
