The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said Sunday it is ready to welcome any initiative for forging a national consensus and holding talks aiming to arrange an inclusive election, reports UNB.
In a statement, BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed said, "The people of all strata of society are now united to fulfil the national desire for putting the country on a solid foundation and globally recognised democratic state institutions."
He said, "We welcome any initiative for a national consensus, national dialogue and formation of a national charter in a bid to hold participatory and acceptable polls under a non-party government."
In the statement, Salahuddin said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is leading the ongoing democracy-saving movement with a strong longing for turning the country into a stable, democratic, prosperous, and developed state, not for assuming office.
