Bride-to-be among four killed in road crash

COX'S BAZAR, Jan 16 (UNB): Four people, including a bride-to-be and her mother, were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus at Baroitali on the Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway in Chakaria upazila on Friday.

The deceased were identified as would-be bride Marzina Begum, 24, her mother Tahera Begum, 52, assistant headmistress of Cox's Bazar KG School, their domestic help Sakhina, 12, and microbus driver Faruk, 25.

All the deceased were passengers of the microbus, police said.

Officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station Provash Chandra Nath said the Chittagong-bound microbus collided with the Cox's Bazar-bound bus carrying picnickers in the area around 10:15, leaving three people dead on the spot and five others injured.

The injured were taken to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex where Sokhina succumbed to her injuries around 3:30pm.

The tragedy struck the bride-to-be and others while they were going to Chittagong for her Gaye Halud programme scheduled for Saturday (today).
