Advance tickets for 'BRTC Eid Special Service' will be on sale from July 20, eight to nine days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The special bus service will start from July 21 and will continue till three days after Eid, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) officials said.
The tickets will be available at BRTC's Motijheel, Joar Shahara, Kallayanpur, Mirpur and Phulbaria depots in the capital, they said.
For the service, a total of 500 buses, both single and double deckers, will be travelling from the capital to other districts and total 1000 buses will be in operation on different inter-district routes.
BRTC director (admin and operation) Nikhil Ranjan Roy told the FE that 83 AC buses will also be added to the Eid special service and another 5 buses will be kept reserved to provide help to affected buses.
"BRTC has advised the Leasers of the units to mark every bus under their unit with the sticker reading 'BRTC Special Eid Service," he said.
He said, "The Eid special service will be available at all the districts where BRTC is in operation. Buses for the service will be allocated at least 10 to 15 days before Eid."
He informed that 60 buses will be kept reserved for carrying garment workers ahead of Eid.
"The buses will be waiting at garment hubs like Baipail and Ashulia," he said.
When contacted, BRTC Chairman Jashim Uddin Ahmed told the FE that the capacity of the BRTC has been increased by 25 per cent in the last three-four years.
He said the corporation-run buses are now carrying nearly 1.5 million people a day across the country.
He also mentioned that price of tickets has been fixed by the corporation.
"If any staff is found to collect extra money from a passenger, stern action would be taken against him and the lease would be cancelled," he said.
