BSCIC cancels 11 plots' allocation

The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has cancelled allotment of 11 plots at the Savar Leather Industrial Estate.

The tanners concerned have failed to construct factories on those plots and start their production according to the deal with the organisation. The BSCIC will soon issue letters in this regard to the plot owners.

This was disclosed at a review meeting on implementation progress of the projects under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) of the Ministry of Industries (MoI) for fiscal year 2019-20 at the ministry conference room in the city on Wednesday.

The 11 tanners include Helal Tanners, Sonali Tanners, Hossain Brothers, Karim Leather and Paramount Tannery, sources said.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun attended the meeting as the chief guest. State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was the special guest.

MoI Secretary Md Abdul Halim presided over the meeting, where senior officials of the ministry were present, among others.

The meeting was informed that construction of the Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) in the industrial estate will be completed by this December. The stakeholders are working sincerely to this end.

The industries minister asked the officials to avoid traditional mentality, and implement the projects with more responsibility.

"Providing funds for projects is not a problem for the government. If necessary, the government will allocate more funds. But projects will have to be implemented by maintaining transparency and quality," he added.

The state minister asked the officials to implement projects as per their scheduled timeframe and by maintaining quality.

He suggested the BSCIC officials to arrange sudden visits in the project areas for ensuring their proper monitoring.

The MoI secretary said officials have to work sincerely to execute projects appropriately.

The officials, who will fail to implement the projects according to plan of action, will be brought under departmental actions. At the same time, successful officials will be formally awarded. opment projects are under the ADP of MoI.
