BSTI gets new director general

SM Ferdous Alam took over as new Director General (Grade-1) of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), a national product quality control institution under the Ministry of Industry, on Dec 31.
Prior to joining BSTI, he served as Chairman (Additional Secretary) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) under the Ministry of Shipping.
SM Ferdous Alam completed his graduation in 1988 from Bangladesh Agricultural University in the Faculty of Agriculture. He earned his MS degree in Horticulture in 1989 from the same university. Later, he enterned government service as a cadre of the 13th batch of BCS (Administration).
A talented student of Bangladesh Agricultural University, he hails from Rangpur district.
As Additional Secretary, he served at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Ministry of Shipping. He was Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Deputy Secretary of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Ministry, and Roads and Highways Department and Senior Assistant Secretary at the Rural Development and Cooperatives Department.
