BTRC posts draft guidelines on VSAT licence on website

The telecom regulator has posted draft guidelines on providing licences for VSAT hub operators and VSAT users on its website to seek public opinion.

The guidelines are intended to provide an overview of the licensing and regulatory framework for applicant(s) seeking to obtain licences to develop, build, own, maintain and operate VSAT, according to the draft.

The draft guidelines will be available on the website of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) until September 30.

According to the draft, VSAT hub operator licence fee will be Tk 20,000, licence acquisition fee Tk 6,50,000, annual licence fee Tk 1,50,000 and renewal fee Tk 4,00,000.

The VSAT operators will have to share 2.0 per cent of revenue with the regulator.

The VSAT users will have to pay Tk 5,000 as licence fee, Tk 2,00,000 as license acquisition fee, annual licence fee as Tk 2,00,000 and renewal fee Tk 2,00,000.

Foreign partners can invest up to 70 per cent in foreign currency directly on any VSAT hub operators, according to the draft.
