Business leaders said Sunday the next mayor of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) should be elected from the business community as the politically-nominated city fathers had failed to make it business and environment-friendly.
The business leaders named Abdul Awal Mintoo, a former FBCCI president, to run for the next mayoral post of the city corpoation.
They announced the decision at a discussion meeting on 'Kemon Dhaka Chai' (the Dhaka city we want) held at the city's BIAM auditorium.
Amir Hosain Khan, president of Bangladesh Dokan Malik Samity, presided over the meeting.
Business leaders including Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Annisul Huq, former FBCCI presidents Mahbubur Rahman, Mir Nasir Hossain, FBCCI first vice president Abul Kasem Ahmed and vice president Abul Alam Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, the FBCCI president said politically-nominated city mayors concentrated more on politics than on making the city livable.
