Businesses urged to strengthen CSR activities

Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs Abul Kalam Azad Saturday said Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, undertaken by country's major corporate houses, are still nominal.
"Little has been done so far in terms of CSR implementation in the country," the minister said urging bigger corporate houses to come forward with more offers.
This is not a luxury but obligation to every corporate house in order to sustain growth in ethical manner of doing business, he added.
He was addressing as the chief guest at a concluding ceremony of a workshop on "Corporate Social Responsibility" organised by the Rapport Bangladesh Limited at a city hotel.
The concluding ceremony of the workshop was chaired by Chairman of Public Service Commission (PSC) Dr Saadat Hussain, while Managing Director of Progoti Insurance Limited AKM Rafiqul Islam attended as the guest of honour.
Participants from different corporate houses including banks, trading and media houses were trained in the day-long programme by eminent educationist from Australia Dr. Fernanda Duarte, associate professor of the University of Western Sydney.
