CA for media campaign on govt incentives, agri subsidies

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed suggested extensive publicity over mass media to make farmers aware about government incentives and subsidies for agriculture and application of viable technologies for cropping, reports UNB.
He gave the suggestion following a presentation of video documentation on 'Krishi Bajet Krishoker Bajet' regarding farmers' thinking elicited through their participation in programmes of Ridoye Mati O Manush conducted by Channel i in some districts of the country.
Channel i Director (News) Sykh Seraj made the presentation at the International Conference Centre of the Chief Adviser's Office Thursday afternoon. A 23-point recommendation was also placed on "Bangladesher Krishi: Samoshaya, Sambhabona and Koronio."
The Chief Adviser said success of any budget, either for agriculture or other sectors, depends on its proper and timely implementation.
The head of caretaker government said it would have make sure that farmers can get fair price of their products in line with the prices that consumers paid, according to an official.
He stressed increased allocation in agriculture sector and monitoring as to whether the allocated funds are being properly disbursed and utilised.
Ahmed said the concerned authorities would have to be careful for distribution of fertilisers properly with strong monitoring to reach fertiliser to the doorsteps of farmers.
Referring to some new but simple techniques in crop cultivation like use of granule urea fertiliser, leaf-colour chart and drum seeder, he said viable procedures should be extended in agriculture for better harvest with low cost and less use of fertiliser.
He appreciated agriculture-based programmes in mass media as it builds up linkage between the government and farmers.
Agriculture Adviser CS Karim, Industries Adviser Geeti Ara Safiya Chowdhury, Agriculture Secretary Md Abdul Aziz and Industries Secretary Md Nurul Amin also spoke on the occasion.
