Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, Director-General of the public-diplomacy wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement to a question during a press briefing at the foreign ministry.
He said Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will sit with the envoys of 28 European countries Sunday to discuss current affairs and trade cooperation, among others.
Among them, 20 diplomats will fly from Delhi as they don't have missions here. The other 8 are based in Dhaka.
"New areas of cooperation, in addition to the discussion on Rohingya crisis, GSP- plus facilities in the post-LDC era and partnership and cooperation pact with Bangladesh will be focused in the meeting," said DG Alam.
However, it is widely believed that the government will brief them about the ongoing propaganda by a section of Indian media against Bangladesh.
Government high-ups have openly voiced their concerns of late over the propaganda in Indian media that the Hindu minorities are not protected in Bangladesh.
This is the first time that 28 ambassadors from the European Union have come together to discuss issues with the Bangladesh government, installed through the August uprising.
He said the agenda of the foreign-office consultation between India and Bangladesh are not finalised yet but issues related to connectivity, trade and water sharing may come up for discussion at the meet, scheduled for December 9.
"An inter-ministerial meeting has already been held to coordinate preparations for the dialogue," he added.
But, he said, there is scope for discussion on the matter of extradition of the former prime minister, who is currently facing trial in Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal for her alleged involvement in mass killings during the student-led July-August uprising.
Asked about delays in reviewing all previous agreements between Bangladesh and India, the spokesperson attributed the postponement to the interim government's operational challenges.
"As promised, all deals will be reviewed and unveiled in coordination with relevant ministries once the situation stabilises," he assures.
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will lead their respective delegations in the consultation.
