Nobel laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of the interim government, inaugurates 'Probashi Lounge' at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday with intent to facilitate both inbound and outbound expatriate workers. —PID Photo Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurated a 'Probashi Lounge' - dedicated for the country's migrant workers - at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Monday.
"Our migrant workers are our nation builders. In the July-August mass uprising, they've played a significant role. We will always be grateful to them. We believe this lounge will make their travel easy," the CA said in his speech on the occasion.
The 'Probashi Lounge' is a first of its kind at the airport. It will offer the migrant workers space to rest and subsidised food for refreshment.
Asif Nazrul, law and expatriate welfare adviser, and senior officials of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) were also present in the inaugural ceremony.
Professor Nazrul, in his speech, paid rich tributes to the Bangladeshi migrant workers and diaspora, who sacrificed time and again for their homeland.
Fathima Nusrath Ghazzali, deputy chief of the IOM mission in Bangladesh, said the UN agency has sponsored the lounge to support the migrant workers.
"This is an initiative of the honourable Chief Adviser. We are happy to support this initiative."
The IOM is also sponsoring nearly 100 volunteers to help the migrants in the airport, she added.
