Cabinet body approves 09 projects worth Tk 23.87b

The cabinet committee on public purchase approved on Wednesday nine projects involving Tk 23.87 billion.

The projects include building of railway line from Khulna to Mongla Port at a cost of Tk 12.78 billion.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith presided over both the meetings at the cabinet division of the Bangladesh Secretariat on the day.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, among others, were present.

Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Md Mostafizur Rahman briefed journalists after the meetings.  

The projects that the cabinet committee on public purchase approved are: to purchase design and supervision consultants under multidimensional shelter project (MDSP) at a cost of over Tk 1.0 billion, import of 25,000 tonnes of urea (under first lot) from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company for the fiscal year (FY) 2015-16 involving a cost of Tk 574 million and import of 25,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) at a cost of Tk 2.80 billion.

The cabinet committee on public purchase also approved the time extension of contract in favour of Space Partnership International (SPI), the USA for the preparatory project of Bangabandhu Satellite at a cost of over Tk 1.33 billion.

The committee endorsed other projects that include real transportation cost for appointing contractor for receiver of bulk MOP fertiliser and transportation of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) at a cost of over Tk 4 billion.  

It approved, among others, bid evaluation report of coastal embankment improvement project implemented by Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) with the World Bank finance at a cost of over Tk 1.0 billion and building of a bridge (Matlab Setu) on the river Donagoda at Matlab in Chandpur at a cost of Tk 500 million.

The cabinet committee on economic affairs also approved in principle import of urea fertiliser from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat).
