Capital market cannot carry 'garbage', says BSEC chairman

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has insisted that the capital market must remain free of "garbage," with any misleading or unverified information removed immediately, reports bdnews24.com.
BSEC Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood said journalists are actively helping in this process by exposing irregularities, manipulations and rumours that can generate unfair profits in the market.
On Friday, he spoke at an Iftar organised by the Capital Market Journalists' Forum (CMJF) for Dhaka-based market reporters, highlighting the need for more in-depth reporting.
He said the capital market is "extremely sensitive", with information impacting prices instantly. "It is crucial to verify data before writing any report. If information is not checked, it can cause immediate harm," he added.
The chairman said the commission encourages reporting but insists that all information be properly verified to maintain the integrity of the market.
Abu Ahmed, chairman of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB), said: "A healthy capital market benefits the overall economy. With the new government in place, we expect positive developments in the market."
He added that improving the quality of market reporting requires proper training in economic matters, a task CMJF is undertaking.
