CHATTOGRAM, June 23: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has announced a Tk 2.15 billion annual budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Mayor of the CCC, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, presented the budget at the Theatre Institute, Chittagong (TIC) hall on Monday.
The Mayor also announced a revised budget of Tk 1.22 billion for the last fiscal year (2024-25). The budget for the last fiscal year (2024-25) was Tk 1.98 billion.
This year's budget estimates the highest income of Tk 1.92 billion will come from grants. Additionally, revenue of Tk 1.45 billion was estimated to come from own sources.
Addressing the budget session, Mayor of CCC, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, said, "Despite the limitations of our resources, my relentless efforts will continue for the happiness and comfort of the city's residents with the overall cooperation of the people of Chattogram."
He continued, "Today marks my first budget session. Although I won the mayoral poll in 2021 with the heart-wrenching love of the city's residents, I was shown to be defeated by the cunning tactics of the then fascist government."
"I express my firm commitment to making Chattogram City an environmentally clean, green, healthy, and safe city." He also expressed hope that the city will become a livable, aesthetic, tourist destination equipped with modern technology and economic prosperity.
The budget session was presided over by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CCC, Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam. The session was moderated by the CCC Secretary, Mohammad Ashraful Amin, and was attended by the Chief Accounts Officer, Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury.
It should be noted that the CCC poll was held on January 27, 2021. All candidates of the Awami League, including mayoral candidate Reazul Karim Chowdhury, and all other ward councillor candidates were declared winners of the poll. The elected mayor and ward councillors took their oath on February 11, 2021.
The then president of Chattogram City BNP and mayoral candidate of BNP, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, filed a case against the result. However, the court declared Shahadat Hossain as the mayor of the CCC in a verdict. He took office as mayor of CCC on November 3 last year.
UNB added, speaking at the event, the mayor said he inherited a Tk 6.00 billion debt when taking office. "This is my first budget as mayor but the fifth budget of the sixth CCC board."
