CCCI recommends steps to control essentials’ prices

CHITTAGONG, Aug 26 (UNB) - Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) leaders in a meeting Sunday put forward a 19-point recommendation to the government for uninterrupted supply of essentials during the month of Ramadan.
The chamber leaders will submit the recommendations to the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government, the Commerce Adviser and other government high-ups tomorrow (Monday).
Their recommendations include waiving the LC margins on imported essentials, reducing interest on bank loan to single-digit rate, increasing the number of buffer stocks, activating the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), providing special subsidy for
importing goods, ensuring import of goods through BDR and withdrawing import duty completely.
Chamber president Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, in his speech, urged the government to identify the reasons for price spirals and to take "punitive action against those responsible".
