The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has expressed dissatisfaction over dropping of the issue of infrastructure development of the port city at Wednesday's meeting of the council of advisers in Chittagong.
The meeting was presided over by Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed.
Earlier, the CCCI placed three specific proposals for infrastructure developments such as hydro-power generation, setting up of an industrial park and development of tourism centres in the port city.
The CCCI expressed the dissatisfaction through a statement, signed by its acting president MA Latif, Thursday.
While talking to the FE Friday, Mr Latif said businesses expressed their frustration over the absence of any word at the meeting on development of an industrial park on the bank of Shanka river in Chittagong.
A number of local entrepreneurs have set up industrial units at the place, which has a good link with the Chittagong port.
He also said: "This is an ideal place for industries as it is well connected with the Chittagong port."
"We wanted the Council to declare it as an industrial park and develop infrastructures for the park." He added.
"The entrepreneurs have been suffering as there is no infrastructure like road, power and gas supply," Latif added.
Latif also said the Council did not give any directive for boosting power supply to the city, which has been facing a chronic power shortage for long.
He said: "We have placed a proposal to the CA on the hydro power generation by local or foreign investors in Rangunia Upazila using water released by the Kaptai hydro power plant, but there was no announcement of measures on the issue."
A Russian business team recently showed keen interest on the power generation through using the water released by the Kaptai hydro power plant.
"We can produce power by using used water of the Kaptai hydro power plant in Rangunia area on the downstream of Karnaphuli river," Mr Latif said.
He said it also sought some government initiatives for development of tourism in the port city.
