CCCI volunteers to operate scanners at Ctg Port

FE Report | August 13, 2008 00:00:00

The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Tuesday volunteered to supply, install and operate container scanners at Chittagong port on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis for promotion of Public-Private Partnership.

In a fax message sent to the Chief Adviser, CCCI acting president MA Latif said that the chamber is capable of doing the job at their own cost as may evident from the automation system introduced by the chamber at Chittagong Customs House (CCH) recently.

MA Latif, also said government financing in the project will give rise to unexpected delays in implementing the important project.

He said that the consignees are now scanning their goods in third ports which are causing delays and leading to increase in the lead time of shipments.

In his message he also said the revenue earnings will increase apart from discouraging fraudulent practices after installation of the scanners.
