The Netherlands-based 'Common Fund for Commodities (CFC)' seeks proposals from governmental and non-governmental agencies for financially support projects to fortify commodity value chains, alleviate poverty and achieve sustainable goals.

Any interested governmental or non-governmental agency of Bangladesh like SME, enterprise and cooperative can submit its proposal for economic and technical aid by 01 April 2024, according to commerce ministry.

In a notification recently, it has requested to provide a duplicate copy of any proposal submitted to the intergovernmental financial institution.

There is an opportunity to contribute to national development by taking project-based loan assistance to develop a commodity market, and implement poverty alleviation and sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Eligible projects are based in one of the 101 CFC member countries that intend to contribute to achieving SDGs by investing in commodity value chains.

According to the CFC, successful applications will demonstrate clear and visible potential to achieve sustainable positive impact on the livelihoods of the poor who depend on commodities.

To speed up the process, applications backed up by sovereign and/or other guarantees are preferred.

Bangladesh has been playing an active role in determining the CFC's policy as a founding member.

Since its inception in 1989, the CFC has been providing project-based credit support to member countries to help develop their commodity markets, alleviate poverty and achieve SDGs.

A handicraft-focused entrepreneurial entity in Bangladesh has already received a $1.0 million loan from the CFC, which is an autonomous intergovernmental body established within the framework of the United Nations.

It provides a range of financial and technical instruments to support projects along with the entire commodity value chain in its member countries, according to the UN.
