A child drowned while playing in drain water in the capital's Hazaribagh area on Monday.
The victim was identified as Tanjil (5), son of Babul Mia, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Sub-inspector Bachchu Mia.
Quoting the victim's family, he said Tanjil and several other children were playing in drain water in Hazaribagh Park area during rain in the afternoon.
The child went under water before he was brought to the DMCH for treatment in a critical condition.
"The on-duty doctor declared him dead around 4:00pm," Mr Mia said.
The body was kept at the hospital's morgue for an autopsy, he added.
