The Chinese government seeks to build a modern technical institute in Bangladesh to create world standard skilled human resources to mitigate the current demand for skilled manpower for sustaining the country's fast growing development, says a statement.
The technical institute, with special focus on power engineering courses, will be set up under the supervision of Bangladesh China Institute of Technology (BCIT).
It was revealed when the seven-member visiting Chinese delegation held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's information affairs adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhry in the capital on Thursday.
Deputy Director General, Foreign Affairs Office of Gansu Province of China Yang Yonggang led the Chinese delegation that included President of Lanzhou Jiaotong University of China Yang Zijiang.
BCIT Chairman Masum M Moshin and Managing Director Charlie Cha and CEO of DBC news M Monzurul Islam were also present at the meeting.
Yang Zijiang said Bangladesh power sector is growing at a very fast pace and most of the power plants are being installed by the foreign companies including big Chinese enterprises. "But Bangladesh doesn't have that much local skilled human resources to meet the demand," he said.
