A brand-new Rolls-Royce car, worth approximately Tk 270 million, was seized from the city's Baridhara area by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials on the ground of alleged violation of customs rules.

The luxury SUV, known as Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge, was released from the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) without payment of proper import duties, the CIID said in a statement on Wednesday.

The car was imported from the UK by Z&Z Intimates Limited, located in the CEPZ, under duty-free facility. But the importer did not submit proper documents for assessment of the car to the customs authority.

Instead, the SUV was relocated from the CEPZ premises on May 17 and kept hidden in a garage of the residence of the company's managing director in Baridhara area, the CIID said.

The price of the vehicle was shown at US$ 200,000 or Tk 187 million in the import document, and after all taxes and duties the car would cost Tk 270 million in Bangladesh.

According to the topgear.com - a platform providing automobile review, the price of Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge 2021 model in the UK market starts from £276,000 before tax, and the price varies in terms of personalised features. The price of the car in the US market starts from $335,000 before tax.
