City fire kills 10

Ten people were killed and seven others sustained burn injuries in a devastating fire at Aga Sadek Road in Kotwali thana of the city Sunday midnight, Fire Brigade official said, reports UNB.

Police, however, said they recovered nine dead bodies from the spot.

Fire Service sources said the fire originated at a chemical shop on the ground floor of a five-storied building at about 12:10am and soon spread to the staircases on second and third floors.

On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after about an hour.

They found 10 bodies at the scene of fire, according to Fire Brigade control room.

The deceased, who were residents of the building, include six males, two females and two children, said Nasrin, a sub-officer of the control room, Monday noon.

Nine of the victims were identified as Shabana Siddiqui (38), Ayesha Siddiqui (15), Abu Sayeed Shuvo (11), Amisha (18), a maid servant, Akmal Hossain (52), Meherunnessa (63), Aman Hossain (11), Rafin Ahmed (6), and Anas Hossain (7).
