City gun attack death toll now rises to three

Another person, who was critically wounded in a gun-attack in the capital's Badda area on Thursday night, succumbed to his injuries at a city hospital on Friday, raising the death toll in the incident to three, police said.   

The latest victim was identified as Mahbubur Rahman Gama, an Awami Swechchhasebak League leader, who received bullet wounds during the shooting.

However, police could not manage to arrest anyone in connection with the gun-attack till 7:30 pm Friday.

When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badda Police Station Abdul Jalil said the critically-wounded assistant cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka city (north) Swechchhasebak

League - Gama - who was admitted to a hospital at Gulshan, breathed his last on Friday morning.

"We're yet to arrest anyone in this connection, but our drives are going on to get some sorts of clues," he added.  

The shooting incident took place at about 9:30 pm Thursday adjacent to Adorsho Nagar Pump at Badda, when unidentified miscreants made the gun-attack on a group of ruling party men. They were planning a programme to observe the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Majibur Rahman.

Shamsu Molla, joint secretary of Ward-6 unit of Dhaka City Awami League and a private hospital employee Firoz Ahmed Manik were killed on the spot, while two others, including Gama, were critically wounded.
