CJ seeks PM's attention

Chief Justice (CJ) Obaidul Hassan said renovation, development and preservation of the court infrastructure across the country occupied a significant area in the judicial planning.

He sought sincere attention of the Prime Minister (PM) for modernisation and development of the court infrastructure across the country for conducting judicial process smoothly.

The CJ said these in a special session under the banner 'Ceremonial Bench' at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday.

The session was organised to mark resumption of the trial process at courtroom no-1 of the Appellate Division (the CJ's court) after a few months' gap.

The Chief Justice further said, "Today the apex court of Bangladesh has got a well-furnished shape. I believe this arrangement is just the beginning of a new day. Through this, development of the country's court infrastructure will get a new life."

All judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division sat for the special session.

Former Chief Justices, Syed J R Mudasser Husain, Md Ruhul Amin, Md Tafazzul Islam, Syed Mahmud Hossain and Hasan Foez Siddique, Attorney General A M Amin Uddin, and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan, among others, attended the programme.

The Attorney General in his speech said the Judiciary has been overburdened due to huge case backlog. "We need to search way for a sustainable solution of the problem." The SCBA President hoped that the Judiciary would play a vital role in restoring democracy, freedom of speech, and rule of law in the country.
