MYMENSINGH, Nov 13 (UNB): Chief Justice (CJ) Md Ruhul Amin today (Tuesday) called upon the judges and lawyers to work together to derive benefits from the judiciary separation.
The CJ made the remarks while exchanging views at a meeting with lawyers at the district Bar Association office.
Vice-president of the local Bar Shawkat Ali presided over the meeting.
The lawyers told the CJ that judicial activities were being hampered due to shortage of judges despite separation of the judiciary from the executive control.
The CJ recognised the problem and attributed it to non-appointment of assistant judges and in some cases their non-promotion for the last 10 years.
He expressed the hope that the problem would be resolved with the appointment of assistant judges by March next as an initiative to form a pay commission was underway.
Earlier, the CJ visited the district judge court Bhaban and held a review meeting with judges.
