Coco's parole extended

A Dhaka court Thursday extended a special release order for Arafat Rahman Coco, son of former premier and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in a money laundering case which allowed him to go abroad too seek medical treatment while facing graft charges, reports bdnews24.com.
Judge ANM Bashirullah of the Dhaka Senior Special Judge's Court gave a two-month the extension on a petition filed by lawyers of the accused, who is currently residing in Thailand.
Coco, who was jailed by the past caretaker government in connection with a number of graft cases, was released on a special parole order on July 17 2008 for eight weeks to travel to Thailand to seek medical treatment.
The home ministry later extended the special order up to March 16 this year.
The Anti-Corruption Commission, meanwhile, filed a laundering case with Kafrul police station on Mar 17, 2009 while Coco was abroad.
