Cold wave likely to sweep on polling day

Most parts of the country are likely to experience moderate to severe cold wave today (Sunday) when the nation goes to the 11th parliamentary election, Met office sources said.
Moderate to severe cold wave will sweep over the western and northern districts with moderate fog in the early hours of the day, an official of Bangladesh Meteorological Department told the FE.
Meteorologist Md Abdul Mannan said temperature in Dhaka and its neighbourhood will remain slight above 11 degrees Celsius with very little chance of precipitation.
"The temperature in Dhaka will be over 11 degrees Celsius tomorrow (Sunday) with little fog," he said.
Saturday's minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded at 11.8 and 23.5 degrees Celsius respectively, according to Met office forecast.
Northwest or northerly wind is likely to blow over Dhaka at 6-12 kilometres per hour (kph), he added.
Mild cold wave means temperature hovers between 8.1 and 10 degrees Celsius, the expert said.
However, western and northern districts including Rajshahi, Panchagarh, Dinajpur, Kurigram and Chuadanga will go through severe cold wave with mercury level ranging from 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.
The country's lowest temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at Rajarhat on Saturday, Met office said.
"Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country," Met office forecast said on Saturday evening.
