Committee formed by BPC for fire at Banglar Jyoti

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 01: The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has formed a committee to investigate the cause of the fire of an oil tanker named 'Banglar Jyoti' near Dolphin Jetty No. 7 of the Chittagong sea port at Patenga area in the port city Chattogram. The committee is formed today (Tuesday) and will submit the report within a day.

The committee is led by the Managing Director (MD) of Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL) Engineer Sharif Hasnat as the chief. Besides, Deputy General Manager (DGM) (Planning & Shipping) of ERL has been made the member secretary of the committee.

The other members of the committee are General Manager (Cargo Supervision and Operation) of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) and DGMs of Padma Oil Company, Meghna Oil Company and Jamuna Oil Company. The committee has been asked to submit its preliminary report within a day.

It may be mentioned that an explosion took place at oil tanker 'Banglar Jyoti' owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) at the Dolphin Jetty of Chittagong sea port last (Monday) morning. After the explosion around 11 am, there was a fire on the ship Banglar Jyoti. Three killed in the accident.

The ERL had about 11000 MT of crude oil in that tanker. The tanker was unloading around 11,000 MT of crude oil from large vessels anchored outside the port and brought it to ERL at Patenga.
