Construction of Bakalia Access Road in Ctg completed

CHATTOGRAM, June 11: Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has completed the construction of the long-awaited Bakalia Access Road, which is connecting Siraj-ud-Doula Road to Shah Amanat Bridge. The newly-constructed road will reduce traffic congestion at the port city. It is likely to be inaugurated soon.
Officials of CDA said Bakalia Access Road has been built with a view to easing traffic and improving connectivity of Bakalia and south Chattogram with the central part of the city.
Project Director (PD) of the road, Engineer Kazi Kader Neawz, said, "Almost all work of the road has been completed under the supervision of CDA. It will be opened for vehicular movement soon."
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project on September 6 in 2016. The deadline for the 1.5km and 60-feet wide road was June 2019. It was delayed due to a conflict centering a 10-storeied building on the alignment of the project and land acquisition cases.
However, A Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) expert team submitted a fresh report on the alternative alignment for the road. The deadline for the project was later extended until June 2023. It has been completed within the extended schedule. With the basis of the CUET report, the CDA management revised the Development Project Proposal (DPP) and constructed the road with the fresh design.
Chief Engineer of CDA, Engineer Kazi Hasan Bin Shams, said, "Finally, CDA has completed the project. The Bakalia Access Road will reduce the traffic congestion of Chattogram city. Now, we are waiting for its inauguration."
