The High Court (HC) on Monday asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to continue its proceedings as per law against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members.
An HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order after accepting a progress report submitted by the ACC.
The court also asked the anti-graft watchdog to inform it about the update when it will file any case against the ex-IGP and his family members and when it will complete the enquiry into the allegations against them.
It also set November 5 this year for further hearing on the matter.
Following a writ petition, the court on April 23 this year directed the ACC to submit the progress of its enquiry into the allegations of amassing a large amount of wealth beyond known source of income by Benazir.
The anti-graft body has been asked to submit the progress or progress report, if any, after two months.
Complying with the court's order, the ACC last Sunday submitted a progress report to the HC.
According to the report, the ACC has found suspicious transactions in the 116 bank accounts owned by Benazir and his family members.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Salah Uddin filed the writ petition with the High Court, challenging the inaction of the ACC in taking action against Benazir.
Barrister M Sarwar Hossain appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner, while Senior Advocates Shah Monjurul Hoque and Sayed Ahmed Raza represented Benazir. Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the ACC.
