Correction in BGMEA voter list demanded

A candidate of the upcoming election of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers Association (BGMEA) demanded Tuesday correction in the present voters' list that reportedly contains at least 25 per cent fake voters. Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez, president candidate in the election from the Forum Panel, brought the allegation while talking to the reporters at a city hotel. "We want a free and fair election, but it is not possible without ensuring a fair voter list", he added. A total of 3,259 voters will cast their votes for electing 27 directors in the election that will be held on March 20. Some 54 candidates from two panels-Forum and Sammilito Parishad are expected to contest. Correction Talking about election date, former BGMEA president Mr Parvez said the election commission did not consult with them about the fresh election date which was supposed to be held on February 24. According to the guideline, the elected directors will select one president and four vice-presidents to run the association for two years. Among the vice-presidents, one is elected from Chittagong region and others, from Dhaka region. Coordinator of the Forum Benzir Ahmed and the candidates of director post from the panel including MA Salam, Afzal Quraishi and MA Shahid were present at the press briefing.
