Country receives record remittance in Dec


Expatriate Bangladeshis sent home $2.42 billion in 28 days of December 2024, indicating record remittance inflows in recent times.
The inflow of remittance stood at $2.19 billion in November, according to the Bangladesh Bank (BB) data.
Remittance inflows stood at $2.39 billion in October, the BB data said.
Remittance inflows have shown fluctuations in recent months, with the country receiving $1.91 billion in July, $2.22 billion in August, and $2.40 billion in September of the current fiscal year.
From December 1 to December 28, out of the total remittances, more than $689.58 million of the remittances came through state-owned banks, $92.69 million through a specialised bank, $1.63 billion through private commercial banks, and $6.92 million through foreign banks.
During this period, expatriates did not send any remittances through eight banks.
These banks include state-owned Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL), specialised Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), and private banks such as Community Bank, Citizens Bank, ICB Islamic Bank and Padma Bank. Among foreign banks, no remittances were sent through National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of India.
In the recently concluded 2023-24 fiscal year, remittances totalled $23.92 billion (Tk 2.82 trillion), marking the second-highest annual inflow in the country's history.
The highest record of $24.77 billion was achieved in the 2020-21 fiscal year.
