Country's largest pvt container terminal gets going today

Formal operation of KDS Logistic Ltd, the country's largest private container terminal, will start today (Saturday), KDS Group officials said.
The private offdock has been built at Sonaichhari of Sitakunda in Chittagong.
Shipping and Inland Water Transport Minister Dr Afsarul Amin will inaugurate the container terminal, a sister concern of KDS Group, at 10am as the chief guest.
Industries Minister Dilip Barua and lawmakers will also be present at the inauguration ceremony.
Selim Rahman, managing director of KDS Group, told the FE: "The terminal has a capacity of at least 30,000 twenty-foot containers at a time and it has installed most modern equipment to handle the contaienrs."
KDS Logistics, located on 46 acres of land, will provide activity reports, daily site inventory, gate interchanges and damage assessment.
It is also equipped with modern fire fighting equipment, CCTV, standby power generation, real time tracking system for truck loading and unloading, container stuffing and unstuffing and web access to check client cargo position.
Chairman of National Board of Revenue Mohammad Abdul Majid, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Annisul Huq and Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority Commodore RU Ahmed, among others, are likely to attend the inaugural programme.
